Rude Awakening!--Sunday May 10, 2009.

Nana & Annie on Mother's Day snuggling

My first Mother's Day...the picture needs no caption?!?

In the middle of the night I heard Annie cry, so like any new mother I went and picked her up out of her Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper Bassinet and put her to my chest. I knew she was not hungry as I had just finished feeding her so I gently patted her back and shushed her in an attempt to get her to calm down and fall asleep. I(Picture me bouncing her up against my chest and going "shush, shush, shush...)When that did not work to soothe her cries I resorted to PLAN B: rub her feet. As many of you know Annie had been kicking me in the ribs during the last several months of pregnancy causing me a great deal of pain and discomfort. As soon as Annie arrived, I discovered her weakness--rubbing her feet puts her to sleep so I resorted to trying this when all else failed. So there I was, rubbing her feet--or so I thought. As I touched Annie's toes I noticed they felt different than they usually do, so I reached and touched the other foot. Then I sat up, took off my face mask and looked down. There on my chest was Henry (my chihuahua), all content and quiet enjoying EVERY second of this. I suppose I had been dreaming because when I looked for Annie she was not in her bassinet but was in her Graco Sweetpeace Swing (our favourite purchase!!) being rocked back and forth. I laughed out loud when I finally awoke from my sleep and realised what had actually happened. I tried to tell Mason, but he was out cold. Either way, it was a fun way to start my first Mother's Day.

Later that morning Karin our midwife stopped by the house again to check in on Annie's progress. She was still quite concerned that Annie was not gaining enough weight or eating enough and mentioned that she may have to go on an I.V. if she remained dehydrated.

Here are her stats as of Sunday May 10, 2009.
Days old:6
Resp/Pulse: 50/148
Skin/Jaundice:Pink
Cord: Dry
Urine: 5
Stools: Transitional
Feeding: Every 2 hours for 40mins. Topped up with extracted Breast Milk
Weight: 6lbs 140z

Karin was pleased that Annie had gained weight and we made another appt for Tuesday.

Karin assessing Annie at her 3rd visit.

After our appt we packed up our things for Annie's first road trip! Thankfully we got 90% of our things organized the night before as we had no clue how long things would take. After several "double checks" to make sure we didn't leave anything behind we left for Keswick to see my Mom and family for Mother's Day.

In Keswick we stopped for quick visit with at Grandpa Walter and Nana's house (Annie's namesake) to allow for Great-Grandpa Walter and Grandpa Vern to meet Annie for the first time. They were very happy to meet her and she was wide-eyed and happy to meet them too.

After that we headed to Miranda and Darren's house for
Mother's Day festivities. Mira and Darren had quite the spread set out for us and we enjoyed spending time with each other. Annie also got to meet her Great-Auntie Jackie and Cousin Darren (A.K.A. Little Darren) for the first time.

Overall, Mother's Day was fantastic! Mason gave me the best gift ever, granted a few days early, but nothing can top it.
Best Present Ever!

Love,
Amber, Mason & Annie
