I survived my first day alone! Wednesday May 13, 2009.

Discovering kissing Annie's feet quiets her!

Today was my first day alone with Annie. Mason had left for work, my Mom had left to go prepare and organize things as my brother Daniel was doing a presentation on Aspergers Syndrome later that day. Annie and I were at home, alone and I really wondered if I could take care of her by myself. Gramma (Mason's Mom) was supposed to come, but at the last minute had to cancel as she is quite sick. We all hope she gets better soon so we can have some Gramma time.

Although we survived the day in the end, it felt like time had flown by and I accomplished little of the goals I had set for myself. I didn't even get to sleep much really as each time I lay down a series of unfortunate 'accidents' (spilling water all over myself in bed) or having the phone ring made for a difficult time.

Here's what our day looked like:

4:20am fed and changed Annie, she slept until 8:45am.
8:45am Annie woke up, changed and fed her. Back asleep until 10:45am.
10:45am Annie was fed and changed, wide awake until 12pm.
12:00pm-1:00pm Annie has an afternoon nap and wakes up to be changed and fed only to then fall back asleep. Annie stays sleeping until 4:15pm.
4:15pm Annie wakes up for a diaper change and feeding, she fed for 30 minutes.
4:45-5:00pm Annie had a catnap until 5:15pm
5:15pm-7:30pm Annie is wide awake ready to see Daddy after a long day at work. She is alert and wide-eyed and has a ride in her swing during dinner.
7:30pm Annie passes out and is asleep until 11:30pm
11:30pm, another change, feed, cuddle with Annie.
12pm, Annie is zonked and ready for a good night's sleep. Annie sleeps until 3:30am
3:30am, Annie wakes for a diaper change and feeding, she nurses for 45 minutes before falling fast asleep! Annie awakes for the day at 7am.
7:00am (Thursday May 14, 2009). Fed & changed Annie...

TO BE CONTINUED! ...

As much as it seems like she slept a lot, I still felt like I did not do much in my day. I need to set smaller goals for tomorrow so i don't feel like such a failure when I don't get everything accomplished. I am still in the midst of sorting all of her clothing into "size" bins (3-6) (6-9) (9-12) and (12+) so that as she grows we can easily access her clothing and put away clothing as well.

Tomorrow is another day and thankfully my Mom will be back at 9am. My goal for Thursday is to shower and get in a decent nap during the day. Let's hope these are accomplished.

Love,
Amber, Mason & Annie

  1. Hey Amber,
Sounds like you are doing great. Annie is sleeping very well at 3 to 4 hours at a time most of her naps. Your goals for today are much more realistic. Don't be so hard on yourself. If you can get a shower and sleep at any given time for 2 hours or more you are doing really well.
    See you soon,

  2. I was dressed, showered and did my hair and make-up by 9am. So, on to the next goal for the day! Finishing writing Baby thank you cards.

I love that Annie sleeps. She definitely takes after her Momma. Let's hope things continue to improve as she grows.

    xoxo
