Tonight, Mommy and Daddy Fraser are tired, but they really want to keep up with the blog so I've been given the writing honours tonight. As the maternal Nana, I've been lucky to be invited to spend some time here helping the kids with--well--whatever they want as they organize their lives around beautiful baby Annie.
They've only been parents for ten days, but Amber and Mason have adapted to this change almost seamlessly. They are both very relaxed and calm, and this has rubbed off on Annie: she is an 'easy' baby, fussing only for food, burps, and dry diapers. It bodes well that Amber and Mason are constantly helping each other and allowing each other rest and relaxation whenever possible.
Mason put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort caring for Amber when she was pregnant. As those of us who know and love Amber know, she was not very comfortable in her third trimester (she had to leave work early due to constant pain), and she was not averse to sharing her displeasure. Mason catered to her every whim as he cooked, cleaned, cared for the dogs...and sleep be damned.
Fast forward to 10 days post-partum: Mason is a proud and devoted new daddy, eager to see his wife and daughter as he walks through the door at night. He scoops up his baby and after some initial cooing and going, he's off to change her full diaper. Since this is Amber's least-favorite responsibility, she is more than delighted when Annie saves these type of gifts for daddy's arrival.
And since the birth, Amber is a delight to be around. She is happy, easy-going, funny, thrilled to be a mom, free of physical complaints, and perfectly happy to wake for night feedings so that Mason can get some much-needed rest. Of course, Mason still works from the moment he wakes up until the time he goes to bed, but since he's a pilot, we're thinking the man needs to get some consecutive hours of shut eye.
Amber has just sent the past hour feeding Annie. We are about to sneak out for a Dairy Queen treat--just the two of us--while daddy and baby nap. I told Amber that scientific studies prove that eating ice cream every day increases your milk production. Since I'm the Nana, I probably know what I'm talking about, right? I also told her that if that strategy doesn't work, chocolate is also a big help.
In the interest of assuring my granddaughter an abundant night-time feed, I will sign off to fetch Amber some ice cream!
Love,
Nana Share-Strom
