A day of visitors...

Annie Madelyn Fraser--5 days old!

Today was a great day at the Fraser household--no trips to the hospital! Not only that, we woke up well rested and happy to have a day filled with visits from family and friends. This afternoon Auntie Miranda, Uncle Darren came by to see their niece Annie (and us of course). Miranda and Darren brought us a delicious meal from a fantastic Indian Food restaurant. As many of you know two of our favourite things are to eat and to eat Indian Food so we were happy to not have to worry about where our next meal was coming from. Later in the afternoon we were also greeted by Auntie Caitlin (my University roommate) and Uncle Tim (her hilarious husband, also a long-time friend).

We relaxed and enjoyed the day together and enjoyed being with our Annie. Normally we learn a lot about what her cries mean and how to do certain things for her. Today however was different as we're slowly getting the hang of things. Today was a learning experience for Auntie Miranda who learned how to hold, burp and change her new niece. Together, Miranda and Caitlin even got to experience Annie's first mid-diaper change pee as they tag-team changed her. It was very funny to watch as both of them were a bit surprised (as was I) that she had more pee in her.

After Caitlin and Tim left, we had a mini-photo shoot with Annie. I know, very selfish on my part as we had to wake a sleeping, warm baby and make her cold and cute and oh so kissable! As selfish as it is, I am glad we did it as I know Mason and I would not have been able to pull off some of the amazing shots Auntie Mirand and Uncle Darren were able to capture. Thanks guys for giving into my craziness and not questioning things.

Well, I'm off to feed my Boobie Monster now. As the day winds down I realise that I'm tired, sore and recovering from my milk coming in. I'm really looking forward to my first Mother's Day with my family. Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms and Moms-to-be out there. I hope you have a relaxing day.

Love,
Amber, Mason & Annie

  1. Guys.. She is SO cute. I am really, really looking forward to meeting her. Tough to say who she looks like yet though.

    Happy Mother's Day Amber.

  2. Finally figured out how to see the pictures -- thanks for the instructions. So whatever happened with the recent hospital trip? We just got the bare bones from Barb and are assuming all is OK since you are home and seem to be doing well? Email when you get a chance (I know it may be a while!). Get some rest and can't wait to see this beautiful girl!

  3. The hospital trip was ridiculous. The first 4/5 days of Annie's life were spent either in the Labour/Delivery suite or in the Emergency Room. Thankfully we were given a private room to nurse Annie and I simply did not leave the room with her as I did not want her getting sick germs--especially with the whole H1N1 going around.

Basically I said too much to a public health nurse when she called. I had been experiencing chest pain when I lay down causing some shortness of breath. I attributed it to pains from delivery when I was literally hoisted up to push, but the nurse wanted me to call my midwife just incase.

Karin told me I needed to head to the ER right away, even though I was adamant that we couldn't as guests were on their way. She demanded I go, so we listened.

At the hospital I was hooked up to a heart monitor, given an ECG and Chest X-rays. All of which showed nothing but took hours. Initially the ER room was not busy, but as time went on I kept getting bumped down the line.

Thankfully enroute to the hospital I called my Mom who was already half way to our house for a visit. I am sure I freaked the crap out of her when I said we had to go to the ER as she was in Oakville in no time.

In the end, we were in the hospital for over 7 hours. Annie at that point had forgotten how to latch on, despite being brought to me several times to try and sleeping with me.

After a shot of blood thinners, the hospital discharged us with a requistiion for a leg ultrasound the next day. They wanted to do it prior to letting us go, but they were swamped and wanted me to go home with Annie as so far they found nothing.

Two days later, we had our scheduled ultrasound. Again, we were at the hospital for OVER 7 hours this time, when they said it would take 1 hour to read the results.

VERY frustrating, and again, they found nothing. The ER doctor appologised several times and said we had a 'get out of jail free card' and to go and enjoy this time with Annie as they grow too fast.

I am glad things were ruled out, but was very angry that no one was considering my feelings or Annie's health and well-being during those days.

Thankfully she is at home now and feeding like a champ again.
