A five-year-old could do it...
Well, few days ago I asked Dean how to put a photo collage on the blog. He said, it's easy a five-year-old could do it. I told him I did not have a five year old to take home and help me out and that I would try to figure it out. Well, I figured it out...sort of....just not sure how to size it. Anyhow, that will be tomorrow's lesson.
Today Annie is two months old! We can hardly believe that 8 weeks ago today she came into our lives. We had been waiting for so long (or so it seems) to meet her and now that she's here the time seems to be flying by.
Annie had her first check-up with our family doctor Dr. Mascairn and weighed in at a whopping 9lbs 12oz. He said that she was in the 50th percentile for weight. She measured 24" long and is in the 95th percentile for height. He called her "long and lean." Can you believe it, I have a tall child--make that we, have a tall girl!?! We're hoping she gets blessed with at least above average height genes as both Mason and I are the exact average height for men/women.
In additon to measuring her, he checked her ear canals and said they appear fine, checked her hips for dislocation, they were fine too and checked her breathing...all were great. As the appointment neared the end, he prepped us for the first round of needles.
I had been dreading going to this visit as I hate Annie's pain cry and remember the first time she cried when she was pricked for the Newborn screening test and how long it took to calm her down. Today was no excpetion, when the nurse poked Annie with the needle she wailed. Thankfully she only had one needle today. Apparently the next needle she gets at her 3 month visit has a "bite" and she said if Annie cried at this round, that the next one is much worse....thanks for the warning?!?
Needless to say Annie has been in pain today and not quite herself, she has attached herself to Mommy and has been a little sucky. Rightly so as she was poked with a large needle in her thigh. I don't mind as I like being able to spend time with her, but hated to see her upset as the injection site became red and swollen today causing her some discomfort. I don't know how our parents did this several times with their children, I was strong for Annie but welled up when she cried as I couldn't take her pain away. I am hoping this aspect of parenting gets easier as time goes on.

Hey Amber,
ReplyDeleteI hated those needles too and they often caused terrible swelling in the baby's leg. It's just a mom thing to cry when your child is hurting. I don't think that ever goes away, but you just keep it inside as they get older because then they get upset that you are upset. Moral of the story is to cry lots now while she's small...lol. A good cry never hurt anything except mascara.
Thanks for the call and the updates. Annie really is doing well and I am sure it is because of the care she is getting from her wonderful parents.
Love to you all and a zillion kisses to Annie.
