Since receiving a potty for Christmas I have been researching about infant potty training and was planning on starting Annie as soon as Mason and I were on board with the idea. Well, today was the first official day of actively trying. So, before I put Annie down for her nap I put her on her potty. This time she had clothes on and was much warmer than her first sad attempt. I guess it goes to show how little we knew about what we were doing as a cold baby= an unhappy baby.
So, while Mason got ready for work I placed Annie onto her potty, this time no tears and she actually stayed sitting. So, I distracted her by reading her a book and every so often said "ssssss" so she'd (hopefully) associate the sound at some point with going pee. Within minutes Annie peed! I have never been so excited to see pee in a potty before but there were a lot of "yeahs," "woo hoos" and smiles from all of us. Annie was so proud of herself. But since Mason was in the shower I could not get an "action shot" of Annie on the potty. So, I opted for the 2nd best thing, a dressed baby sitting beside her pee a la Kate of Jon and Kate plus 8.
I remember when I would watch that show and see the potty training episodes and think how gross it was she took pictures of her kids and their pees and poos now look what I've become! I guess it's because you're just so proud and want to capture that moment forever in time. I know it's weird though.
Either way, I am so excited for our little girl and hope that she continues to be successful on the potty and eventually once she's crawling and walking will eventually show us she understands what the potty is for. I guess like anything with consistency and patience I am sure she'll catch on in good time.
Update: In total, Annie peed on the potty 4 times and pooped on the potty twice today. I only had to change 2 diapers! WOO HOO. Hopefully she continues to enjoy her potty and listening to me read her stories while we wait...
thats awesome!
ReplyDeletei would recommend reading Diaper Free baby, and Diaper free before 3
they are great books, that have really helped us with our potty learning journey with Liam.
We started before he was 6 months old, and now at 1 year he regularly "tells" me he needs to go, and alot of days only wets his underwear/diaper 1-3 times.
the time and effort you put in in the beginning is definitely worth it in the the long run. The potty is not a big deal to Liam...its just part of his daily routine, and the transition to being completely out of diapers will be alot smoother for everyone.
Keep at it!
