Weddings, Babies and Swing Time!

Annie at Auntie M and Uncle Darren's Wedding
October 11, 2009.

The past few weeks have zoomed by and we can hardly believe that Annie is almost 6 months old. It's hard to imagine how much has happened in such a short amount of time. Annie as most of you know is a very curious little girl and her latest trick is to copy what Mason and I do during mealtime. She has been "practising" using her spoon lately and understands that she is supposed to open her mouth when she sees it. When I fix myself breakfast and lunch I put her in her highchair so she can watch me and she is very happy playing with her spoons. We are excited to start officially her on solids in the weeks to come.

This past weekend Miranda and Darren got married! It was a beautiful wedding and we all had a lot of fun. It was nice to be able to get all dressed up and see family and friends we had not seen in a long time. I know for Uncle Phil, Aunt Barb, Alicia and Janine that was the first time they met Annie.
Annie was fairly well behaved during the wedding but had a mini-meltdown just before Miranda was to walk down the aisle. I did what any Mommy would do and I tried to calm her down by rocking her, when that didn't work I resorted to plan B and fed her til she was happy as a clam. During the process, several visitors to the Allan Gardens were walking by and I even had some of Darren's family try to snap a few picture, talk about awkaward.
This week Annie and I have been battling our colds and are thankfully on the mend. This week she has decided that she no longer wants to be rocked, cuddled or fed to sleep. It's excrutiating as she grabs my face, pinches my skin and screams in my face like she's being stabbed. When we lay her in her crib she cries too, but a much softer less ear piercing cry and in minutes she puts her thumb in her mouth and is sound asleep. It is not what we imagined at all, as we don't want her to cry but despite our efforts to rock and help soothe her she just claws at us. We are so confused and lately we both dread bedtime..I am sure Annie dreads it too.

Today Annie and I braved the cold and went for a walk to the park where when she was all bundled up looking like Nanuk of the North she finally fit into the baby swings! She was adorable and loved being in the swings but due to the cold her eyes and nose started to water and run...with only one Kleenex between the two of us our park trip was cut short to warm up and clean up the runny noses. She loved her first swing ride and showed her appreciation by sitcking out her tongue!
Well, my girl is crying trying to calm herself down again. I better go try to help her down and hope she succumbs to sleep. Wish me luck. Update: Annie screamed at me, pinched my face, and pulled hair and is now awake crying. No amount of rocking, snuggling or feeding her has helped. wah. Why does she cry harder and louder when I try to help her? Let's hope she finds her thumb sooner than later.

Love,
Amber
