The Flu, sleepless nights and some colds

2 Turkeys and a Chickadee!

Well, the past week has been the toughest week of motherhood to date...including the first week we brought Annie home. This past week Mason has had the flu--he is thankfully on the mend and is back to work but for almost 5 days he was sick as a dog and not well.

When we took him to the ER he had a 102.5 fever and his resting heartrate was 150BPM. It was scary as they did not want Annie to be around the sick germs so I would periodically go in to check on him in between waiting to her any news in the waiting room. It was an exhausting few days as Mason slept in the guest room so he could get better. I was on Annie duty for both the day and the night...several of them.

Normally this would not be a problem as Annie would only wake up once, maybe twice each night. HA...she decided around this time to wake up every hour to two hours so exhaustion had definitely set in. To top it off she would wake up screaming in pain from gas and be up for hours and nothing calmed her down. Eventually she would fall asleep from sheer exhaustion.

Just when Mason is on the mend Annie and I are now both getting colds. A Mommy with a cold is now no biggie, I have learned to manage and not take anything for my cold symptoms. The netti pot has also become my best friend and my new "medication" for when I am sick.

Annie on the other hand is not a happy camper when she has a stuffy nose. We have tried everything to ease her discomfort but not much is working. For the past three nights she has slept with me in bed just so we can both get sleep. She sleeps clutching my face and feeding all night long. At 4am I am so tired I will do anything for sleep. I even joked with Amy about pimping out her night nurse for a full-night's sleep. Mason even joked about driving to their house with Annie and staying the night so the nurse had to take care of Annie too..haha. One can dream I guess.

With Auntie M and Uncle Darren's wedding days away I am doing all I can to get Annie and I well enough to enjoy the festitives. She is in good spirits during the day but wants to be held and fed as often as is humanly possible.

My good girl has been napping for the past 2 hours and as tired as I am, I can't fall asleep. I think this is God's way of punishing me even more or some crazy hazing ritual all new parents must go through as a rite of passage. Either way, not cool.
